Dave Heaps, Teen Challenge Birmingham Leader........ "Teen Challenge was established in 1958 by David Wilkerson, whose work drew him towards teenagers and young people involved in gangs, crime and drugs in New York City. The organisation has since grown, expanding to over 90 countries worldwide, and has been operating in many towns and cities in the UK since the late seventies. Teen Challenge is a faith based organisation, which provides residential rehabilitation places to those aged between 18 and 35, wanting to break free from addiction to drugs and alcohol. Twelve months ago this phenomenal ministry was expanded when Christian Life Centre Church (CLC), in the Selly Oak area of Birmingham opened its doors to host Teen Challenge. This is the first ministry of Teen Challenge to be established in the Midlands. Teen Challenge Birmingham (TCB) acts as a referral to both males and females into residential rehabilitation centres. We operate with a bus outreach team that visits the town centre (Ernest street) every Thursday night from 8 pm till 10.45 pm, and have an office and counselling suite located at the life house centre (CLC) Selly Oak. Although the first year of ministry has primarily involved the establishment of foundational principles and core values, it has also proven fruitful, as one girl is currently residing at Teen Challenge Wales. Rebecca entered the Girls centre (Hope house) in January 2007, and is now approaching her re-entry phase. The period of time that an individual spends in a Teen Challenge rehabilitation centre may differ from person to person, but it is roughly a duration of around 12-18 months. Rebecca is approaching the final stages of her discipleship course and is considering entering the Teen Challenge school of ministry. The school of ministry lasts for a duration of 6 months and is also located in South Wales."
